This year, the Unity Walk extended to the Mahatma Gandhi ji’s statue in front of the Indian Embassy in Washington DC in celebration of his 150th birth anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, there was music, snacks and speeches for those who walked or gathered at the statue. Among the speakers was also Mr. Natwar Gandhi, who was the chief financial officer for the District of Columbia, from 2007 to 2013. It was great to have Mr. Gandhi’s speak at the event as he is an ardent admirer of Gandhi ji and was also instrumental in the original installation of the statue when he worked for the DC government. He shared a great overview of Gandhi ji’s life as well as one of the poems he has written about him.
